4/19/2024 Tracks
Without further ado, here are the tracks for this year's WBC.
The first group includes 2 tracks never used in WBC qualifying before - Midrand, which made it's WBC debut as last year's finals track, and Watkins Glen, a classic Indy track that has just recently made it into Doug's lineup. Group 2 is a collection of fan favorite classic tracks. Then the last grouping includes lots of wide sections for those in the back to catch up and pass.
This year's finals is another brand new to WBC track - Zandvoort.
Q1 (Yellow) Q2 (Red) Q3 (Blue) Finals (Green)Just a quick note on WBC status - as many of you know, we did not receive enough votes on the Trial Ballot. However, we have been sponsored for the year, so we are all set to go. And the committee has ruled in our favor regarding player hours, so hopefully the calculation for this year's event will put us back into the century club.
12/11/2023 WBC Status
Just a reminder to everyone to vote for CFR on the Trial Ballot when you sign up for this year's membership. From the website:
The voting for Trial Events for WBC 2024 will occur during our initial Membeship Drive period from December 4, 2023 to January 31, 2024. To vote, complete the Membership Application, which includes the Trial Ballot for WBC 2024, and submit the form along with payment.
I have already talked to Ken and submitted a request regarding the player hours announcement below. However, the best thing we can do right now is to show our support for CFR by voting on the Trial ballot. Please make sure you do so before the end of January.
12/04/2023 WBC Status
We got an announcement from the board this week which may end up affecting us:
WBC EVENT PLAYER HOURS: With the announcement of the WBC 2024 Century Group, there has been much discussion on the player hour calculations for a few games. The player hour calculation was standardized using box hours for the playing time in 2018 to provide a consistent approach to player hours. Based on the discussion after the WBC 2024 Century Announcement, this calculation was revisited. The following process, reviewed by the Board, will be implemented for those GM's who feel the playing time for their event is significantly different than the box time.
A GM of an event may submit a request for the playing time to be reviewed for potential change from the box time. The GM will be responsible for submitting documentation to support the requested change. The request and supporting documentation is to be sent to the Convention Director (conventiondirector@boardgamers.org) by February 15. A decision on each request will be made by February 28.
If the request is approved, it will affect WBC 2024 Laurels and WBC 2025 Century/Trial Status.
I'm going to submit that request to be re-evaluated, but in the mean-time, let's all still make sure to vote on the Trial Ballot.
10/20/2023 WBC Status
Attention WBC racers!
Some of you may already know this, but unfortunately Championship Formula Racing lost its Century game status with WBC for this upcoming year.
We had our typical attendance of about 30 players in July but our player hours went down considerably as a number of racers had conflicts with other events. That was apparently enough to boot us out of the top 75 games. I was told by Ken that there were another 5-6 games in our same situation, and none of them got the 2/3 vote from the board to achieve Legacy status.
The next step at this point is to submit the game to the Trial Event Ballot, which I will be doing. So please make sure to vote for CFR this year on your ballot. If we don't get enough votes there, we could still get sponsored by a publisher, so we have a number of remaining avenues to explore.
It is my intention to run CFR at WBC in 2024, but that is the current status of things. Remember to vote on the Trial ballot in December!

7/03/2018 Rules Survey
I've copied all the results out of Survey Monkey again and put them on my website. Thanks again to everyone for filling this out, I really appreciate it. Check it out here:
Just as recap to these surveys, here is how WBC will be running this year regarding the issues we discussed in these surveys:
- We'll be splitting to 3 tables when we hit 21 players.
- We're sticking with 3 laps (with one exception). I forgot to mention this when sending out the tracks, but Oyama (on Day 1) will have 5 laps instead of 3, due to its short length.
- We know the tracks in advance (which was sent out a month or so ago).
- Table seating will determined randomly within skill groups. (I talked to Ken and he said this was fine and that several other games do the same thing with AREA rankings).
- No slip rules will be changing.
Finally, on the subject of Table Talk, let's continue to have a fun time around the table and talk and banter like we always have. Just bear in mind that coordination of moves and/or collusion is highly frowned upon, so be respectful of your fellow racers. We've been getting a bit relaxed on that subject in the last few years, so let's be more mindful in the future.
Personally I'm very much looking forward to seeing and racing with all of you in a little less than a month.
4/26/2018 Tracks
Since we decided as a group that we still want to know the track selections ahead of time, here is the much anticipated announcement of our track selections for this year's WBC.
The basic criteria we use is to cycle through the colors, one group a year. So since this year it is Blue, Purple, Red, and Yellow that means that next year would be Purple, Red, Yellow, and Green. That gives the greatest variety of tracks and keeps shifting what we play at any given time. Within that selection, we simply pick tracks that either haven't been played at WBC before, or haven't been played in the longest amount of time.
Qualifying Heat 1:- Valencia - last seen at WBC in 2015
- Oyama - never seen at WBC (this track will run 5 laps due to length)
- Baku - never seen at WBC
- Sochi - first seen at WBC as last year's finals
- Francorchamps 1983 - never seen at WBC
- Castellet - never seen at WBC
- Imola - never seen at WBC
- Nurburg - never seen at WBC
- Estoril - never seen at WBC
- Suzuka - last seen at WBC in 2013
4/02/2018 Survey
I've copied all the results out of Survey Monkey and reproduced them on my website. Go check it out here:
It gives you graphs of all the questions and a bunch of the comments. I have some comments and then also make decisions on some stuff. There will likely be at least one more of these email blasts when we figure out the tracks for this year, and I'll probably have an announcement or two at WBC.
Anyway, thank you to everyone for filling this out, I really appreciate it. If you have anything else you want to talk about, feel free to email me.
